Late last year NESFA Press (the publishing side of the New England Science Fiction Association) asked Michael to do 6 covers for the collected stories of famed author Roger Zelazny. They told him that before he died, Zelazny stated in an interview that he always wished he had a "Whelan cover." How could Michael resist that? NESFA wanted Michael to combine elements from the stories into one painting that they could divide up into the 6 covers. Michael enjoyed the challenge and suggested that NESFA design the dust jackets so that when the 6 books are placed together on a shelf, the entire painting will be displayed along the spines.
